How to Get Involved: Volunteer and Community Engagement Opportunities in Nashville

by Clara Ndiraya, Director of Social Justice + Community Engagement

Earlier this month, I was inspired by the incredible outpouring of support at the Hands Off Protest at Centennial Park.

This protest is now recognized as the largest national demonstration since Trump took office in January, where participants peacefully expressed their concerns about his policies 🙌

Another vital way to contribute to our community is through volunteerism. As Sam, our client journey liaison, mentioned in one of our previous newsletters, Hands On Nashville is the go-to hub for local volunteering opportunities.

Here are some other great organizations where you can make a difference:

  • Project Redesign: Help redesign spaces for individuals in need using donated furniture. Volunteers assist in the warehouse or with installations.

  • Nashville Launch Pad: Emergency shelter volunteers are needed to serve food, coordinate showers, and spend time with guests. Meal volunteers (ideal for groups or families) deliver prepared or catered meals.

  • Nashville Rescue Mission: Explore various volunteer opportunities to support individuals facing hunger, homelessness, and other hardships.

  • FiftyForward: This organization empowers adults aged 55+ to share their skills with young people, veterans, homebound seniors, and others facing challenges in Nashville, including food insecurity.

  • Nashville Diaper Connection: Help package, count, label, and prepare diapers for distribution to families in need.

  • Inspiritus: Volunteer to support low-income families in Middle Tennessee through activities such as donation sorting, meal prep, garden work, and even art therapy.

  • The Oasis Center: Oasis offers volunteer opportunities that support queer youth in Nashville. Programs include mentorship, bike repair, street outreach, emergency shelter, and more.

  • Nashville CARES: This organization focuses on ending the HIV/AIDS epidemic in Middle Tennessee. Volunteers can assist with event coordination, administrative tasks, client support, and other critical programs.

If you know of any other great Nashville-based volunteer opportunities or causes that you’d love to see us support, feel free to fill out our contact form and someone will be in touch!
