Deja’nelle Adams

BA; she/her
marriage and family therapy graduate student

I do this work because everyone deserves a place to show up as their authentic self to help them in this journey we call life. I am deeply committed to empowering individuals, producing resiliency, and creating safe spaces for every individual. I do this work so individuals can process their emotions in healthy ways, and be in tune with their mind & bodies.

I also believe that…

  • Your body tells the truth. When in doubt, listen to your body. We have all had moments when we felt uneasy, but lacked the words to describe it. Somatic and part-based modalites helps the body connect with the mind. Having full awareness on how your body feels, and staying in tune with your body can lead to healing. Through therapy, I strive to help release tension and stress in the body that words can’t describe.

  • Therapy is a lifelong Dance. Dancing is self-expression. A dance can be slow, fast, with one person, with a couple, and more! That is just like therapy! There will be times when you may be hesitant to share things that seem too scary or personal, which is ok. I am here to walk with you on your journey and take the approach that works best for you. You may want to move a little faster, which could mean longer sessions. I want you to be as comfortable as possible and to be your authentic self. Just like a dance, therapy isn’t a one-size-fits-all. I will adjust to every individual's needs as everyone is unique. I am grateful to be a part of your therapy journey.

  • Pain is a part of the healing process. I would love for each session to be easy-going, but I know that won’t be the truth. There will be times when you may want to fight back tears, but I am here to say that I want that emotion. I want you to cry as silly as that may sound because I know that we are making progress. I want you to let out your frustrations. Being in pain means that you are acknowledging the hurt in your story. In today’s society, it is shunned to be in pain, but in therapy, it is appreciated. I want you to know I am beside you and care deeply about empowering you and guiding you closer to healing.

  • Self-care is important. Congratulations on taking the step to come to therapy! This shows that you are prioritizing your mental health and self-care needs. I believe this is important because life is hard. Having a good work-life (school if applicable ) balance is key to ensuring the best optimal results.

My purpose at The Gaia Center is to support you in your story and to help provide empathy, care, and hope every step of the way.

I work with adolescents, adults, couples, and families.

I am especially passionate about helping adolescents dealing with life transitions, as it can be difficult during this age and developmental stage.

I also love working with individuals navigating anxiety or depression and relationship dynamics that include pre-marital work, family dynamics, and discernment.

As a Black woman, I also particularly enjoy supporting other BIPOC folks.

I integrate elements from IFS, Somatic Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Bowen, and Emotionally Focused Therapy in my work depending on each client’s needs.
